Not Your Average Joe
by Racer 450 Staff

So, do you think there’s a need for a smaller displacement high performance engine, say a 250cc?
Definitely, there needs to be a more affordable way into the sport and it’s headed there now.

That seems to be the hardest part of getting into racing, what do you think?
The money for sure. There needs to be any entry level class. We’ve got stock bikes racing 20 grand bikes. You’ve got 16 year olds just starting out, they need a better place to begin. It would be an extremely good idea to take something like a Blaster and stick a YZ250F engine in it.

We’ve heard rumors about a future OEM class. Just change the tires and pipe and you’re off.
I’d like to see an equal class, let people pick out the talent.

If there was a class like that now, would any machine shine?
It’s shining now, the YFZ450.

What will come first, more engine or chassis advancement?
I’d say chassis. Look at bikes, there aren't aftermarket frames out there, and you shouldn’t have to buy one to race your ATV.

Will the current chassis concept completely change in the future?
There are limits, and we are getting there quick? There’s a point, and if you go past that point, it’s not an ATV anymore. ATV development seems to be following the BAJA trucks closely.
