ATVA GNC Round 2 Race Report
MX at Gatorback: by Jeremy Smith
Coming in to the second round of competition Kory Ellis held the points lead after a 1-2 finish for first overall at Glen Helen. Glen Helen finished the day off with the second moto win going to a hard charging and determined Doug Gust. Everyone waited nearly a month to see if Doug would carry the momentum into Alachua, Florida or if Ellis would hold the number one spot. Not to be left out, two other wild cards, Jeremiah Jones and the sole Honda rider, Tim Farr would also be on deck with a checkered flag definitely within reach.
Sunday, Sunday, Sunday…
When the gate dropped for the first moto early Sunday afternoon a few new surprises were in store. Duncan/Roll/IMS rider Tavis Cain pulled through the first turn like he was on fire and battled with Lonestar backed rider Keith Little for the lead until a broken rod left Keith stranded track side. Luckily, Racer 450’s own Ryan Webb was nearby to help lend Keith a hand in pushing the broken Yamaha back to the pits, or as Ryan tells the story “a mile long uphill sprint pushing an ATV”. Keith seemed a little less affected by the push.
