R450: Is there anything that you would change about the racing that we have right now; like the class, the circuit or the rules.
Doug: I think that all of the pro riders should be recognized by the AMA as pros. They still consider the quad guys amateurs. I would like to get that changed. I would like for us to get full license and of course raise the purse. That will get more guys wanting to run pro, because the AMA has to realize that it takes a lot more to race four-wheelers than it does motorcycles. There is a lot more that you have to do to it to make it competitive. A guy can buy a motorcycle and stick numbers on it and go race. You can’t do that with a quad. So the cost is way more with a quad, and if they would raise the purse then more guys would be interested in doing it. Also, I believe that the AMA or the ATVA needs to put in a production stock class. There are enough manufacturers out there now that make decent four-wheelers that they could make a class like this, just limit it to handlebars, nerf bars, and maybe tires and that’s it. This way the average guy could put numbers on his bike and race this class and not have to race against guys that spend twenty thousand on their bike. That would really make the sport grow.

R450: I agree with you; that would give a lot of the people who would like to get into racing but can’t afford to an avenue into the sport.
Doug: Exactly, there are so many people that I talk to that would love to come race, but they can’t afford all of that stuff for their four-wheeler and to come race. They could come race with the four-wheeler or buy all of the stuff for it, but not both.
R450: Anything about the circuit in particular that you have a problem with?
Doug: I’m kinda disappointed in some of the track promoters. They’ve had quad nationals for a long time but they don’t change the track. The track has been the same for fifteen years. Come on people; it's time for some new stuff. People want change. Not just the racers but also the fans.
R450: Do you think that they groom the tracks well enough for the atv’s?
Doug: Yeah they do, I think the problem is that they are making these tracks too easy for the pros. They need to put a pro section in. They always say, why don’t you put whoop de doos in and the response is because of the amateurs. Whoop de doos used to be motocross and now most of the tracks don’t do them anymore. They take them all out. These tracks are getting so fast that people are getting hurt at high speeds. If they’d put more obstacles in it things would be better. Most people think that more obstacles means more chances to get hurt, but when you are doing sixty down a straight and tangle and flip, I’d rather be doing twenty-five over a double or something and wreck than sixty. They need to figure out a way to have a pro section at these tracks. I mean this is motocross. A lot of people complain that the tracks are too rough, but I don’t think that they are. I don’t think they’re rough enough.
