As the race went on, the first four positions slowly came into the crosshairs of Byrd. With three laps to go he managed to pass Jason Luburgh for fourth position. On the next lap he flew past Tavis Cain. There were now two laps to go. He was a little behind Tim Farr, but he could see him ahead. Joe pulled forward through the whole lap. When they crossed for the white flag there was only about a quad’s length difference between them. Jeremiah Jones had fallen into the fourth position and was holding good. On the final lap everyone was cheering. Doug led with a safe distance, but Tim was being extremely pressured by Joe. After the big tabletop they came to the step up double with a drop side by side. They maintained this position through the rhythm doubles, and Joe passed Tim on the first turn back to the left. At this time the crowd went crazy. Doug was now in the lead with Joe Byrd behind him. Tim fell back into third place followed by Jeremiah Jones. Tavis Cain held on to the fifth place spot. Jason Luburgh blew his motor on the Ten Commandments, which caused him to lose sixth and get a DNF. As they came across the line, this is the way it would stay.
