R450: What are your goals for the year?
John: I want to win as many races as possible so that I can win another championship. I want to win Honda another championship. I want to get rid of some of the mud and crud and have some real races.
R450: What is your favorite track to race at?
John: My favorite was probably Southwick. It didn’t matter whether it rained, or what, the track was always nice.
R450: Out of the tracks that we are running this year, which ones do you not like?
John: This one here in Texas is one of them. Most of the tracks are pretty good. Most of the tracks make for pretty good racing.
R450: Is there anything that you think needs to be improved on?
John: I think that the ATVA needs to inspect the tracks to make sure that they are wide enough. Also, the promoters need to put out bales during practice to make sure that the amateurs aren’t running just one line on the track. You can start out with a forty-foot track and by the time the amateurs are done running it is only about fifteen feet wide. They need to concentrate on making sure that it is a raceable track, not only for the pros, but also for everyone else out there. Not just the racers either, but the spectators too.
R450: Do you have any advice for anyone coming up in racing?
John: One of the main things is to keep riding and keep training. It doesn’t matter where you are at, don’t quit. Even if you crash and you are in last, get back up and finish the race. That is what a lot of sponsors are looking for.
R450: What do you do for training?
John: Mainly, I just ride. I get on my bike and ride all of the time.
R450: During the winter, or when the weather is bad, what do you do to train?
John: Luckily for me this year, I have been able to travel and ride where the weather is good. When the weather is bad, the best thing that you can do is jogging, or running on the treadmill. Even jumping rope is good. Basically, anything that works your cardio is good. I don’t think that weightlifting does you much good. You are a lot better off to work on your cardio.
Well John, thanks for the interview, a lot of your fans are looking forward to this. Congratulations again on the Stadium Series victory and good luck in moto 2.
