ITP C-Series Sport Wheels
Racer 450 Magazine
We are starting a couple new test bikes here at Racer 450, for the first mod to our new Honda 450R we decided it needed a new set of good looking wheels to set it apart and motocross tires get it in the handling ballgame. We wanted something different, so looking through the latest catalogs we came upon ITP’s C-Series Sport Wheels. We had been told that these were not wheels meant for racing. Several people have mentioned wanting to run these wheels but were leery and ended up going a different way. We thought this would be a good chance to try something new and set the record straight for everyone else.
We decided on a 10x5 front and 8x8 rear so we could run ITP Holeshot SX tires. The 10x5 fronts came in black powder coat. Unfortunately the 8x8 rears are not available in a powder coat finish although 9x8 rears are. We sent ours out for a color match as soon they arrived.
The first thing we noticed, aside from the fact that we had two silver wheels and two black ones, was how light these wheels were compared to most other cast wheels on the market. Also unlike many black powder coated items the finish on our fronts is very high gloss. Many black powder coated items are dull or hazy.
Our favorite feature of both the front and rears are the tapered lug nut seats that work with OE Honda lug nuts. We decided to use ITP’s chrome lug nuts to add a bit more luster but the stock nuts will work if money is a concern, and they don’t have to be turned around backwards like on most other manufacture’s wheels.
As you can see in the photos, the wheel/tire change immediately transformed the 450R into a head turner just like we hoped for. Now the real test, how will they hold up?
